Inspired by J.M.W. Turner, Georgia O'Keefe, Massimo Cruciani, Edgar Degas and many others, I am pleased to be an artist painting in oils (palette knife and brush), soft pastels, paintings on glass and now watercolors. My landscapes are driven by my travel memories. My flowers are inspired by the actual thing -- I once had a pressed and dried flower business. And my skies -- my hero is Turner. What more can I say?
My motto: "Life is short, use color!" I hope you enjoy my show.
Years ago we went to Vail for a week, just to get away. I went outside and, lo and behold, saw a lovely, subdued dusk peeking behind the Rocky Mountains. Here it is. Simple. Simplicity.
You don't see many "night" paintings generally speaking, and especially few in glass paintings. Therefore, this experiment, which I consider successful and I hope to do more of the same. Twilight and night in the mountains with the stars just above, twinkling away, beckoning to other worlds, very, very intriguing to me. Do you agree?

Capturing the colors of Utah can be difficult. Using the palette knife while doing so, not so easy, either! The skies get wild, the colors of the rocks and cliffs and canyons, alluring....here you have some of Capitol Reef. Now, go visit Utah!
"Capitol Reef Color", 18"x24"palette knife oil painting on canvas, sold unframed, $650, Paypal preferred, s&h included in North American, write KarlaNolan@gmail.com or info@KarlaNolan.com for more information
In my modest opinion (!) Santa Fe, New Mexico, is one of the bright spots in the art world. By this I mean both in terms of collecting or buying and also just being inspired by both the architecture and setting, it is quite the place. You can see my enthusiasm for it in this painting. I just love Santa Fe!
The flower of Ireland, fuchsias are very difficult to paint. They are beautiful to look at but have folds and curves which bewilder the artist's mind (at least THIS artist!). Enjoy them as they hang in all of their glory.
"Fuchsias", 14"x11" oil painting canvas,, $150, Paypal preferred, s&h included in North American, write KarlaNolan@gmail.com or info@KarlaNolan.com for more information
The color blue is not my favorite color but I do find it to be soothing. The clouds are made of blue hues, along with cool white, lilacs, deep blues -- all looking further in depth to the horizon line. I really enjoyed making this piece of art, using knives only. No need to frame unless you care to!
"Blues Skies", 36"x36" palette knife oil painting on 3/4" gallery wrapped canvas,, $650, Paypal preferred, s&h included in North American, write KarlaNolan@gmail.com or info@KarlaNolan.com for more information
Cannot help but love this cheese! This is a colorful, large, pastel painting I showed at Whole Foods here in Fort Collins some time ago, along with other cheese, vegetable, and fruit paintings. Fine Print Collection has reproduced these paintings beautifullly: see below, please. I have the original available for sale, as well. Enjoy the aroma, taste, and have a bit of wine with it (and crackers, naturally!).
It's pansy time! Already! Okay, I've been anxious about springtime, but once pansies are in bloom, all worries go out the window. I used to own a pressed and dried flower business, many moons ago, and pansies were my favorite flowers to grow and to press and dry. It wasn't just that they were easy to press, you had so many looks from which to choose! Colors galore, differing sizes, if you include the Johnny Jump Ups, just plain old fun with flowers. They made (and still do) me happy.
"Happy Pansies", painting on glass,9"x12" measured edge to edge glass, sold framed as shown, ready to hang, $325, Paypal preferred, s&h included in North American, write KarlaNolan@gmail.com or info@KarlaNolan.com for more information
Being the cloud watcher that I am, it's surprising how many cloud formations you can see at dusk. Some seem to be roaring through the sky while others seem either solitary or almost soft, gentle. These particular clouds almost twirled, whirled, and danced in the atmosphere.
