The color blue is not my favorite color but I do find it to be soothing. The clouds are made of blue hues, along with cool white, lilacs, deep blues -- all looking further in depth to the horizon line. I really enjoyed making this piece of art, using knives only. It's pansy time! Already! Okay, I've been anxious about springtime, but once pansies are in bloom, all worries go out the window. I used to own a pressed and dried flower business, many moons ago, and pansies were my favorite flowers to grow and to press and dry. It wasn't just that they were easy to press, you had so many looks from which to choose! Colors galore, differing sizes, if you include the Johnny Jump Ups, just plain old fun with flowers. They made (and still do) me happy.

Being the cloud watcher that I am, it's surprising how many cloud formations you can see at dusk. Some seem to be roaring through the sky while others seem either solitary or almost soft, gentle. These particular clouds almost twirled, whirled, and danced in the atmosphere.

My one and only trip to Spain was in 1997. It was hot and dry, there were sunflowers all over the place -- to be honest, I thought I'd fallen asleep and awakened in Kansas! My husband loves to travel extensively when we're fortunate enough to travel to a foreign land, so we made it to Cordoba, Marbella, Granada, the white hill towns near Andalucia....we usually put on hundreds of miles in our rental cars!
There was an area that he wanted to visit, an ancient cave, so we made our way there. On the drive I saw oleander, wild, growing everywhere. If you go to California or other very warm environs, I know you see it sprouting along the side of the roads -- but this was wild in the foothills. What a wonderful sight! Here you can see my interpretation....sort of abstracted, as I really got into it....

"Sweet Time of Day" is a palette knife oil painting that I really do like. I have lived outside of New York City (northern New Jersey) and I realized, I didn't see sunsets there. Go figure! If you happen to be in a high rise building, yes, you might see some but not like here in Colorado. Now, don't get me wrong, I love New York and New Jersey -- but having such a strong affinity for my native state sunsets....I gotta take Colorado! (But I'll visit The Big Apple all that I can!)

Morning glories are delights. I am taken with the various colors in which they appear. For some reason, I find them difficult to grow from seed, so have taken to buying "starts", little plants in 2 1/2 inch pots. Wherever and whenever I travel, I make a point to seek them out and take reference photos. They make mornings wonderful! (That, and a bit of coffee!)

Colorado dusks are simply the best, in my opinion. Now, I've traveled some, and admittedly I have seen some real beauties, but I'm still opinionated when it comes to my home state. Who wouldn't be, though, honestly? Mountains, prairie, wildlife, wild life (!), marvelous sunrises (of which I see very few, being more of a night own), and spectacular sunsets, living by the foothills of the Rocky Mountains! Whew!

Last call for irises!
The fourth iris (out of four) was a difficult one to paint primarily due to its coloration. There is a mix of opacity and transparency in it -- a very dark hue of purple. It may well be my favorite iris of the painting.
So....Happy Mother's Day to you! Out in our sweet garden, a new iris has bloomed, this one a plucky yellow one....What a subtle scent irises have -- and they come in so many colors. As I have mentioned previously, I find them to be almost impossible to paint some days. But I feel that I had a good couple of days with this painting....I've been showing the entire painting with one close up per day for the four days for your perusal. Don't forget...my glass paintings are combination of transparent, translucent, sometimes a bit shimmering, and have an opaque element to them, also. Reminiscent of stained glass, at times. They are shipped already framed (always) to protect the glass and save you money and time, too!
