"Sweet Sunset" by Karla Nolan, framed painting on glass

ALERT: You are about to view art of a different nature. These are paintings on glass -- that is, painted directly onto glass with specially formulated glass paints. They are always framed for the protection of the glass. The paints often are transparent and sometimes opaque, giving a stained glass appearance under good light. They, like all fine art, should not be hung in direct sunlight. The photographs do not do them justice -- my colors are very vibrant. Close ups are available, just e-mail me for information (see below). In most instances, click on the actual image for an even larger image to view -- you'll see lots of different items such as marbelization, transparent or opaque parts of the work -- try it and see! Commissions are accepted.

As anyone who has followed by art blogs knows, I adore sunsets. Now, you might wonder, how many sunsets can an artist paint? I have no answer in terms of solid numbers, but it seems that Mama Nature has an infinite variety of the them, so my take on this is "the more the merrier". I never seem to run out of ideas or colors. And, best of all, I have FUN painting them! Yaay! Something good for an artist to have.

"Sweet Sunset", 4"x4" edge to edge glass, framed in a lovely wide piece, $125 includes s&h in N. America, Paypal preferred, click button below or write for more information at KarlaNolan@gmail.com

I like irises. Living in Colorado, I get a lot of sun in my life (over 300 days a year). So I decided to combine the two -- "Blue Iris, Yellow Sun" is the result. The yellow sun in this art piece is transparent; the blue iris has yellow on it, also. This is a warm and vibrant work and framed in a lovely "copper/brown" frame. It was a fun project for me, something different. Now, if only spring would arrive! (We're expecting between 6-10 inches of snow tonight where we live..........ugh!)

"Blue Iris, Yellow Sun", 5"x7" measured edge to edge glass, framed as shown, $125 includes s&h in N. America, a terrific deal in my opinion, Paypal preferred, click button below or write me for more information at KarlaNolan@gmail.com

"Fiery Twilight" is just that -- a sunset/dusk/sundown painting loaded up with color, color, and then even more color. There is a luminescence here -- it's hard to see on a computer monitor, unfortunately, but a glow just as the sun does going down behind the mountains and hills. I have to say, this is one painting I am extremely proud of having created. I love it!

Every once in a while an artist just has to experiment! I love doing this and had an absolute blast when I came up with "Razzamajazz" -- it reminds me of purple and blue balloons, flowers, jazz and/or blues notes -- anything up beat! I hope you like it as much as I do...

The grapes were hanging tenuously in Napa and Sonoma Counties this week. A major storm had swept through the wine country -- zinfandel and chardonnay were more at risk than the cabernet sauvignon grapes. The leaves had or were turning -- golden, deep reds, oranges. What a lovely trip we had -- lots of good vino to taste, great food, meeting new folks -- I encourage you to visit this amenable part of California -- you'll have a blast, just as we did!

"Fruit of the Earth", framed painting on glass, 10"x8", $250 includes shipping and handling in N. America, Paypal preferred, click button below or write me for more information at KarlaNolan@gmail.com

We have recently been in the California wine country and San Francisco. While in the City by the Bay, there was a tremendous storm, full of rain and winds. On the TV newscasts, the big story for the region was the wine grape harvest -- would they get the grapes picked in time or not? Would the grapes which are the thinnest skinned, zinfandel and chardonnay, be saved? Well, luckily, I had thought about this much ahead of our trip and painted this piece of art -- "Ready For the Picking"! So, for me, much worry about nothing....

"Ready For the Picking", framed as shown, 4"x4", $125 includes s&h in N. America, Paypal preferred, click button below or write KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

"B is for Bougainvillea" was a fun piece of art to create but, honestly, very trying. I added layer upon layer of paint, scratched out occasionally (sgraffito) and added on and in. Very complex. The bougainvillea is a magnificent plant to see -- very tall at times and full of life and colors. I find that they are almost impossible to paint in traditional media, oils or pastels for me, but that using glass paints and layering, I can get the effect I want.

I've been trying out some new techniques on glass lately and am happy with the results so far. These artworks are without lines and are somewhat dreamy looking, hence the title "Dream Poppies". This photo does not do the painting justice, unfortuately, as I had trouble getting an exact image of the glass (do to reflection problems). They are, as usual with my poppies, bright and happy looking. Green honestly is not my favorite color but naturally accompanies flowers in nature, so I work at getting more than a couple of shades of it into the painting. Poppies appear to be one of the all time favorites of people when it comes to paintings -- I'm one of their biggest fans!
