"Let It Snow!", miniature palette knife oil painting, rocky mountains, colorado, winter

Okay, okay, I just couldn't resist painting this!  Our beautiful autumnal weather has disappeared and in its place is snowy weather complete with frigid temperatures.  This snowfall has had beautiful, giant snowflakes, much as you see in the painting.  It's a great time to hang out indoors or, if you have to, shovel the driveway and sidewalk, but the roads are freezing up and it's best to avoid driving if possible!  I heard on the news that over 204,000 new residents from warm states have migrated to our lovely Colorado -- be safe on those slippery roads, folks!

"Full Moon Night Scene", miniature palette knife oil painting, affordable, skies

Ah, a return to the silhouette of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains just outside my front door....I know I sound a bit obnoxious, going on and on about what a privilege it is to live where I do in northern Colorado, but it truly is the case!  This is the sort of view in which I get to indulge myself and I never tire of it...welcome to my sweet world!

"Wisteria in Shadow", miniature palette knife oil painting, france, floral

This flowering vine is so intriguing to me.  My home state of Colorado is too cold to grow it successfully, but I have seen it in bloom in Rhode Island, California, France, and Italy and am mesmerized by it.  The purple shades of the flower are almost white, then lilac, then lavender, the petals dripping down the multicolored green leaves, with heavy shadows and then punctuated with sun facing, almost lime hued leaves giving a stark contrast to the shaded areas of the vine.  This is a miniature painting which, if matted with linen and framed with darker tones, becomes more of at statement, a "bigger" painting -- or just simply put the unframed artwork on a small wood or metal easel, it'll fit in anywhere!

"Colorado Foothills Glow" miniature palette knife oil painting, affordable, rocky mountains, sunset

November seems to be the easiest time for me to observe sunsets over the silhouette of the Rocky Mountains.  Maybe it's the time change, moving from "Daylight Savings" to "Mountain Standard" time -- dinner is at 6 pm around here, so that gives me time to run out the front door and observe to the west, over the foothills, what is occurring in the sky.  Am I spoiled or what?  Loving it, lots of inspiration for painting!

"Scenery From Monet's Garden", miniature palette knife oil painting, france, affrordable

Some days I could be a tour guide, I swear!  This is one view of Monet's gardens at Giverny, well documented by the man himself, of course!  There were flowers in bloom everywhere, multitudes of varieties, growing up and over arches, under the well worn paths.  What a marvelous place to see, I urge you to go there.  Travel and see what the great artists lived with and painted....so worthwhile....

"Irish Fuchsia", framed palette knife and brush oil painting, affordable, ireland

Did you know that the fuchsia is the national flower of Ireland?  'Tis!  We were there a long time ago with our daughters and I actually saw fuchsias growing wild along an old stone wall.  It was an amazing sight, the sort of thing you'd never expect to see!  This particular bunch comes all framed up and ready to hang on your wall.

"Pick Me!", framed pastel painting

It's been a few years since I painted with soft pastels but they were my first love, no question.  I was fortunate to take classes from Clive Tyler and found them to be so informative, applicable to other media, as well.  Poppies have been one of my favorite subjects to paint, as well as just view, so here you go, a red poppy already framed, ready to be put on the wall to make you smile!

"Italian Poppy View" framed palette knife oil painting, affordable

In my opinion, the "must visit" time for great poppy viewing in Italy is in the month of May.  The fields are simply alive with wild red European poppies, enlivening the already beautiful landscape.  Skies are blue, undergrowth is green, the air is fresh and warming.  I guess it's obvious that this is the most delightful of scenes to see!
