"Lingering Sunset" by Karla Nolan, FRAMED glass painting

ALERT: You are about to view art of a different nature. These are paintings on glass -- that is, painted directly onto glass with specially formulated glass paints. They are always framed for the protection of the glass. The paints often are transparent and sometimes opaque, giving a stained glass appearance under good light. They, like all fine art, should not be hung in direct sunlight. The photographs do not do them justice -- my colors are very vibrant. Close ups are available, just e-mail me for information (see below). In most instances, click on the actual image for an even larger image to view -- you'll see lots of different items such as marbelization, transparent or opaque parts of the work -- try it and see! Commissions are accepted.

"Lingering Sunset" reminds me of hot summer days -- when you don't even expect the evening to end because of the time changes -- the days are lengthened and you see the sunsets longer, that is, is you really look at them! Sometimes we'll be sitting outside under the pergola, admiring the flower garden, enjoying the sweet summer breeze, the lovely glass of wine, and most of all the good company -- and then look up at the sky and be amazed at how wonderful everything can be! This painting reminds me of such an occasion.

"Lingering Sunset", framed painting on glass, 11"x14" measured edge to edge glass, $545 includes s&h in N. America if shipped from my studio; if in a gallery, at their discretion; Paypal accepted, click button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information or close up view

"Lilacs and Blues" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

This is a palette knife oil painting on canvas, a sunset to recall late summer evenings near the Rocky Mountains. Palette knives challenge some painters, but I feel more challenged by brushes, frankly. When using a palette knife to paint (or a painting knife, for that matter), the oil paints just is so reminiscent of butter sliding across a warm piece of toast. It's so much fun! I guess it's more difficult for some people, but to me, this is just the most delightful way to paint true colors.

"Lilacs and Blues", unframed 10"x20" palette knife oil painting, $595 includes s&h in N. America, Paypal preferred, click button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information on this luscious painting -- Thanks for looking!

Okay, so you say: "Enough with the poppies, already!" And I retort: "No way! They're just getting started in our spring garden!" And they truly are -- the foliage is out and about, we're waiting with bated breath for the red, blood red, flowers. No orange babies here in this painting, but we do grow the orange poppies, also. It's rained most of the day and Mama Nature is on the loose; April showers, May flowers, that bit!!!!!

"Oriental Poppy Patch", 18"x24" measured edge to edge glass, black frame, $1995 plus s/h to be determined at time of sale, Paypal invoice sent then; write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information or close up photo

"Shalom Bayit -- Shalom in the Home" by Karla Nolan, FRAMED glass painting

The very idea of peace in the home seems to be an alien idea for some people, I hear. Wouldn't it be so sad to grow up in a dysfunctional abode where people fight day and night, where there is such tragedy or trauma, where one doesn't have a sense of well being? I don't have that background, luckily, but have met those who do. Fortunately, I grew up with unconditional love -- some say this can't be so, but it is true to my way of thinking -- my mother was from Colorado, the southeastern corner of it -- pioneer family! My father escaped Nazi Germany, losing almost all of his immediate and extended family, just for being Jewish. Putting the two people together, with such diverse upbringing and background could made for a bit of chaos. But I feel very strongly that because of their different backgrounds and of the times in which they grew up, they emphasized the bond that family should have. I have tried to do the same, along with my husband, with my family. And I am eternally grateful to my parents for all the loved that has been shown to me and my siblings.

"Shalom Bayit -- Peace in the Home", framed glass painting, 5"x7" edge to edge glass, $125, Paypal preferred, s&h included in N. America; click button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information. Thanks so much for looking!!!!

It seems to me, and I want to preface this by saying that not every artist would agree with this, that experimentation is crucial in the growth of an artist. I find that if I don't "play", I don't grow. The idea of pulling apart the view of a flower field could be an interesting bit of work. Take the sky away, pull away the actual flowers, their stems and leaves, the grasses that grow beneath and what do you have? A deconstructed flower field. Hopefully it encourages one to rethink what one sees. Does that work for you?

"Deconstructed Flower Field" approximately 8"x10" measured edge to edge glass, sold FRAMED as shown for protection of glass, $345 includes s&h in N. America, Paypal preferred, click button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more details or a close up photo

I had painted a similar glass painting over a year ago and just had the need to return to the same subject matter and change it up a bit. This piece is more "stained glass"-like. To me experimentation is key to producing artworks. Without it, I feel like my art could easily become stagnant. The frame is one of my favorites, sort of "old world" -- a light touch of sgrafritto, if you will. (Oh dear, did I spell that correctly? If not, please forgive me.) Red poppies never tire me and stained glass has always intrigued.

"Winning Threesome" 10"x8" measured edge to edge glass, sold FRAMED for the protection of the glass (and you save money!), $340 includes s&h in N. America, Paypal preferred, click button below or feel free to write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information or a close up photograph
