"Red Cliffs, Moody Skies" by Karla Nolan, pastel painting

Ah, Utah! Cannot resist that state. It lies just to the west of Colorado but has a different geographical structure. Lots of rocks, cliffs, canyons -- and a ton of sky! This was, I believe, a view from Capitol Reef. The whole family visited -- it was hot, hot, hot, and dry. Lots of clouds coming around in the afternoon. I just remember the redness of the rocks, cliffs. I loved it!

"Red Cliffs, Moody Skies" 16"x20" pastel painting framed in basic black, $960 includes s&h in N. America, Paypal preferred, click button below or write KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

"Darkness Approaches" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

As the sun fades away and the day ends, the darkness approaches. You must know of my fascination with sunsets. Living in the state of Colorado, along the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the Continental Divide, I see my more than fair share of these events -- twilight, dusk, sunset, sundown.

This palette knife oil painting on 3/4" gallery wrapped canvas will be in the upcoming Brigham Galleries on-line art auction. Make sure to go to TheBrighamGalleries.com (the auction site may not be up yet, please be patient) and see it! I am honored to be part of the event, with four paintings, two on glass and two in oil, available for the first auction! Hooray!

"Iris in Spring" by Karla Nolan, framed glass painting

ALERT: You are about to view art of a different nature. These are paintings on glass -- that is, painted directly onto glass with specially formulated glass paints. They are always framed for the protection of the glass. The paints often are transparent and sometimes opaque, giving a stained glass appearance under good light. They, like all fine art, should not be hung in direct sunlight. The photographs do not do them justice -- my colors are very vibrant. Close ups are available, just e-mail me for information (see below). In most instances, click on the actual image for an even larger image to view -- you'll see lots of different items such as marbelization, transparent or opaque parts of the work -- try it and see! Commissions are accepted.

This glass painting will be on the auction site of The Brigham Galleries in the near future. I'm thrilled to be part of this new on-line auction. The Brigham Galleries have carried many famous artists in their brick and mortar gallery and are now preparing for the initial auction. Stay tuned: when I can give you more information, I promise that I will! For now, enjoy the springtime irises!

I finally was able to visit Half Moon Bay in California a couple of years ago. This small town has the most intriguing name! I had a lovely time there and was most intrigued by the morning glories everywhere, crawling up and down the fences, in all sorts of hues. Here are some for you!

"Magical Mesas" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting on canvas

I present to you some mesas from my imagination and memory. I have seen so many mesas and so many skies and sunsets in the southwest, I decided to let my imagination do the work on this painting. Mesas are great topographical wonders. They just seem to drop off, leaving the edge of the world. Driving by them is always intriguing, as you get to see all sorts of mineral deposits resulting in layers of different colors. I love them!

"Windy Peaks" by Karla Nolan, framed pastel painting

"Windy Peaks" is a 16"x20" pastel painting that was inspired by a winter trip to Estes Park, Colorado. I remember gazing at the mountains of Rocky Mountain National Park and just being amazed at how tall they were, covered in snow. It was a very brisk and windy day -- I think I captured it in the painting -- had a blast putting it all together, too! (This painting is also available as a print, see link to Art for Conservation below.)

"Windy Peaks", framed in black, 16"x20" $960 includes s&h in N. America, Paypal preferred, click button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

"Fort Collins: Horsetooth Mountain and Flower Fields" by Karla Nolan, framed painting on glass

Commissions are accepted.

I have been out of commission for a couple of weeks for various reasons. The primary reason for this is I have moved my art studio from a tiny room in the house to a more spacious one -- little did I know what I was getting into! Tortuous throwing out of old stuff -- decluttering, organizing, revamping, the usual chores one does when moving. I find it to be an agonizing and never ending process -- I'm still sifting through papers even now!

The commission I was hired to paint is finished and you can see it above -- what a job! It was nerve wracking and fun at the same time -- the largest painting on glass so far...I have temporarily named it "Fort Collins: Horsetooth Mountain and Flower Fields". The woman who requested the painting gets the final say on the title. Hope you enjoy the view!
