This weekend in Fort Collins, I sat in front of Meko's Gallery painting for a demonstration of palette knife painting techniques.  It sure was hot out there but I had a great time, other than the occasional grasshopper who decided to descend upon my knives!  Honestly, they are sure a nuisance!!!!

This was the end of result of my painting -- yes, another sunset, but with some red cliffs in the foreground -- ah, the skies are so inspiring to me!

Sometimes when I have a bit of spare paint on my palette, I just whip up another fun painting with my palette knives.  This one was a blast to paint -- "Red Door Welcome" is a 4"x6" palette knife oil painting on canvas which hopefully welcomes you into my abode with a happy yet peaceful feeling.  The greenery around the door is typical of our house -- come in and enjoy yourself!

If you read my last blog, you know that I have received a ton of 4"x6" linen panels, a few too many!  So, here's another miniature painting just for you -- an Italian poppy meadow, very reminiscent of the several times I've been fortunate to visit Tuscany.  May is the month for the big poppy bloom, and I hope to return to the lovely Italian countryside to see it once again.

"Ode to The Arches" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

This is my ode to the Arches National Monument in Utah.  What a fun place it is to visit -- I did take some artistic license here, as the Three Sisters is probably located in a different geographic spot than I showed it, but it was all in good fun.  This painting is on a 4"x6" linen panel -- and there are many more of these to come, as I over-ordered the number of these panels by far!  Oops!  So...I'm no so great with the math some days!  You are the winner here if you like miniature paintings!  And I've kept the price low and included s&h in N. America, as all of us are struggling in these tough economic times!

One of my latest projects has been to produce a series of small paintings for a friend's boutique here in the northern part of Colorado. "Summer Night" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

Okay, I know, I know, I know, I know already!!!!!  It's Summer!  It's August!  It's hot in summer and in August -- dare I say more?  I thought it might be fun to put the heat to the canvas in this sunset -- I've seen plenty like this one, too!  I can tell what's going on here -- by the time August arrives, I know I'm mentally preparing for Autumn.  Autumn and Spring are my two favorite seasons....temperatures that are more moderated are for me.  Winter and Summer are so extreme sometimes -- not always in Colorado -- it varies day to day.  However, it's slowly by surely creeping up on us -- a new season.

"Summer Night" is a 5"x7" palette knife oil painting on canvas panel and costs a mere $70  (including s&h in N. America) -- it's not framed but that's easy enough to rectify -- you can either lean it up against the wall, a shelf, a small easel, or indulge yourself with a wall frame -- nothing to pricey about any of this and in this lousy economic times -- why not splurge on yourself?  E-mail me at KarlaNolan@

"Poppy Sweet" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

Finally I'm back to blogging.  I lost a dear, dear friend to cancer last weekend and had no impetus to do much of anything but mourn and grieve the loss of such a sweet lady and talented artist.  So....I'm back, I guess.  

Here are three red poppies palette knived onto a 10"x8" panel.  Should you be interested in this painting framed as shown, it'll cost $275.  Unframed it'll cost $175.  I went really heavy on the paint in this artwork.  And I'll admit, I had fun painting it, too!
