"First View of the Grand Tetons" by Karla Nolan, framed glass painting

ALERT: You are about to view art of a different nature. These are paintings on glass -- that is, painted directly onto glass with specially formulated glass paints. They are always framed for the protection of the glass. The paints often are transparent and sometimes opaque, giving a stained glass appearance under good light. They, like all fine art, should not be hung in direct sunlight. The photographs do not do them justice -- my colors are very vibrant. Close ups are available, just e-mail me for information (see below). In most instances, click on the actual image for an even larger image to view -- you'll see lots of different items such as marbelization, transparent or opaque parts of the work -- try it and see! Commissions are accepted.

My last post was about the yellow water lilies in Yellowstone National Park. This one is about the first experience I had seeing the Grand Tetons. And grand they are, indeed! Now I'm used to seeing some big time mountains, living next door to the Rockies, and I've seen Ansel Adams' photos of the Tetons. But, honestly, I was so impressed to see them in person. Absolutely incredible and, dare I say, awesome! (I never use that word!) They are intimidating in a most majestic manner and I would urge anyone who is reading this post to go and see them.

"First View of the Grand Tetons", 8"x10" framed glass painting, $340 includes s&h in N. America, Paypal preferred, click button below or write for more information at KarlaNolan@gmail.com. Close ups available, too. Thanks so much for looking!!!!

Well, this was certainly an adventure! Last summer we went to Yellowstone National Park. There was much to see in the way of wildlife, of course, geyers, mineralized pools, and, astonishingly, these yellow water lilies. Now I've been to Hawaii and seen water lilies there and, naturally, we can even buy them are the nursery and grow them in our lovely state of Colorado. But I certainly never even remotely anticipated seeing them in Yellowstone! I'm glad I did and plan to paint a companion piece to this one, simply because it was so much fun to paint this one!

"Western Sunset" by Karla Nolan, framed painting on glass

To me this is the quintessential sunset of the West. Of course the sunsets vary somewhat, but often they are seen in these colors -- bluish-grayish tones overhead, bright but fleeting colors just over the mountains with the yellow glow beginning the dip down below the hills. We live right next to the Rocky Mountains in the foothills -- sort of nestled up to the beginning of the altitude climb. This is the West as I know it.

"Western Sunset", 11"x14" measured edge to edge glass, sold framed as shown for the protection of the glass (and it saves you money, as it's already framed), $525 includes s&h in N. America, Paypal preferred, click button below; write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for close ups or more information -- And thanks for looking!

"High Plains Sunset" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

This is just a simple, small piece that I enjoyed painting. It's a 4"x7" palette knife oil painting on canvas adhered to foamcore. The high plains of Colorado near where I live sort of get their sunset -- almost a bounceback from the mountain sunsets. Interesting phenomenon.

Okay, so what's so "rare" about this sunrise. Two things: first, each sunrise is unique; second, I am almost never up to see one! When I do catch a sunrise I am always moved by it and sort of kick myself for not having gotten up more often but then I return to "my ways" of sleeping as late as I possibly can because I cherish sleep so much! Does this make sense? In other words, I'm not a morning person!!!!! Oh well.

A new day, a new painting. Isn't that how it goes? Well, almost! This is a NEW type of glass painting for me -- my dear friend, Susan, who owns Meko's Gallery in Fort Collins, gave me an expensive piece of museum glass on which to paint. It has a special UV ray coating and so the final appearance is slightly softer, not so reflective. I hope to play with this some more in the future. The irises were more than happy to be painted onto this la-di-da glass! "Happy together....sing along!" "Blue Sky Red Earth" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting on panel

This painting is still wet on the easel. I have been wanting to do something in my two favorite colors, red and turquoise, for some time now and finally just sat down to do it this afternoon. I'm happy with it, especially the simplicity and texture of it. Sometimes I just get lost in too many details. Here it's all about color, color, and more color, then texture. Enchanting? I hope so..Anyway, I like it! Click on painting for close up.

"Blue Sky Red Earth", 9"x12" palette knife oil painting on panel, sold unframed for $215 via Paypal, click button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com. Don't forget, s&h is free in N. America.
