"Dark Hills, Bright Skies", palette knife and brush watercolor painting, matted to fit 8"x10" frame

This is another experimental piece in watercolor using both brush and palette knives.  Always up for a new challenge, eh?  The paper is a bit rougher than others I've tried, hence the more textured sky.  Bottom line:  I AM HAVING FUN!

"Dark Hills, Bright Skies",  palette knife and brush watercolor painting, approximately 5"x7" image in beige mat to fit 8"x10" frame, $60 includes s/h in continental U.S., click Paypal button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

"Snowflakes and Moonlight", watercolor painting in 10"x8" mat

One thing I'm learning about watercolor painting, you need to have an adventurous and experimental nature!  I wasn't sure how this one would turn out but am happy with it -- it reminds me of wintertime when the snow is flying -- but with a full moon, of course!  Pop it into a frame, hang in on the wall, all the matting work is finished for you!  (The "suede" mat is a paler blue-grey than it might show in the photo.)

"Snowflakes and Moonlight", watercolor painting, approximately 3.5"x4.5" image in blue-grey "suede" mat to fit 10"x8" frame, $60 includes s/h in continental U.S., click Paypal button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

"Chicken Little Was Right (Colorado Sunset)", matted watercolor painting

If memory serves me correctly, Chicken Little believed that the sky was falling.  Well, in this case, it appears to be happening.  This is how the sun sets in our fair state of Colorado some evenings!

"Blues Skies", 36"x36" unframed palette knife oil painting on gallery wrapped canvas

Well, this is a biggie -- 3 feet by 3 feet, painted primarily in blue hues.  Hence, the name.  The clouds in Colorado are so beautiful, so numerous with the varying shades of the blues in the background, they light up everything!  Ready to hang, no need to frame unless you want to.

"Poppy Face", framed original pastel painting

This is an older painting but I still love it.  It's pretty detailed if you stand directly in front of it, but back up and you "get the picture"!  Papaveri, coquelicot, poppies -- call them what you will, they are always happy!

"Poppy Face" 14"x18" original pastel painting, FRAMED as shown, $750 includes s/h in continental U.S., click Paypal button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

"Yellow Glow Within", watercolor painting

If you have followed me with any of my varied artwork media, you know that no matter what, I cannot resist painting a sunset.  They enthrall me completely.  It doesn't hurt that I live within a mile or two of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, either, I get to view some winners!

"Looking From Estes Park Towards Rocky Mountains National Park", unframed palette knife oil painting

Colorado is a state with many altitudes -- the eastern plains runs long and flat, high prairie, gradually climbing to the Mile High City and environs.  Denver is almost exactly a mile above sea level and one can tell this with the thinner air both in breathing in the oxygen and sunning -- you'll have a harder time with the breathing aspect and you'll burn to a crisp much more quickly!  We live right next to the foothills in Fort Collins, just over an hour north of Denver.  Driving up the Big Thompson Canyon to Estes Park, you'll see the fields, meadows and foliage before the great mountain peaks of Rocky Mountain National Park.  This is my (oil painting) take on it.  And there's a lot more to Colorado than just mountains.  More on that later.

"Majestic", 4"x12" unframed palette knife oil painting

Having the Rocky Mountains to the west of us makes for some amazing sunsets, especially with the silhouette of the peaks below.  I love the dusks that have just a tinge of blue in them, more pinks, corals, yellows than anything.  I would have to say that they are "majestic"!

"Opera Pink Hollyhocks", original watercolor painting

Isn't life just one big experiment, really?  As if I needed any new challenges!  My father painted in watercolors, one of my best friends does also, and I have decided to acquaint myself with this medium.  Game on, right?  I have never painted hollyhocks before, so this is a double whammy!  It's matted and ready to pop into a 10"x8" frame, put it on the nail in that wall....

"The Arches of Utah Beckon", 4"x12" unframed palette knife oil painting on gallery wrapped canvas

I love the red earth and blue skies of the West.  The U.S has so many varied regions in it but the wide open skies and the ruddy orange and vermillion tones of  Terra Firma speak to my memories.  I hope we go back to Utah soon and see the Arches, Capitol Reef, Zion and so on................
